Online Australia day 1998 is being celebrated by Connected Australians on Friday November 27th 1998. The day is being held as a major initiative of the Commonwealth Government, It is being coordinated by the National Office for the Information Economy (NOIE). The aim of the day is to increase awareness among the general community and business of the benefits of being online.
Online Australia Day will bring the community together through a "Virtual Expo" web site and a series of events staged around Australia. NOIE invited schools to become involved in this national event. The Australian Council for Computers in Education (ACCE) and Oz-TeacherNet are inviting teachers (the people) to be involved in this event. This event is funded by the Australian Computer Society.
Oz-TeacherNet is providing opportunity for Australian teachers to do two things as a celebration of their online achievements before and on Friday 25th November.OAD Celebration and Archive: Contribute to a snapshot view of online activity celebrating what teachers do online with their students. This involves mailing 2-3 paragraphs to oz-teachers@rite.ed.qut.edu.au with a description of an activity you have done or a project you have completed with your students. These will be collected on oz-teachers and archived on a special site for Online Australia day.
Double-up: Show a colleague what is happening online by inviting them to sit with you on Friday 27th November while you show them online activities as they happen. You will be able to tune into oz-TeacherNet's broadcasts of educational ideas and look in the archive of the OAD-celebration as it is built by Australian educators. You will also be encouraged to show them the various broadcasts, chats and site building activities of Online Australia Day.
