What is DECA?

The Design in Education Council Australia is a national organisation of design educators, teachers, design professionals and individuals, groups and institutions interested in the role of design in education. It was established in 1984.

• encourage and promote all facets of design in education
• provide a national focus for all such activity
• provide a national forum for the exchange of ideas for all people working in Australia on aspects of design in education
• develop relationships with other national and international groups which promote similar aims.

DECA is not just concerned with design education, but with developing an understanding of the design process as a general education strategy. DECA aims to encourage integrated and relevant approaches to learning that link all areas of the curriculum - early childhood, primary, secondary and tertiary - by design.
