The Job Guide

There are various sites on the Internet where you can:

  • Look for a job
  • Work out what sort of career you are interested
  • Find out about further study
  • Find out about traineeship and apprenticeships

One site that can link you to all of this is called "The Source". It also links you to other interesting and informative websites, which contain relevant information for young people.

Here’s how you get to this site (if your browser is Microsoft Internet Explorer)

  • From your desktop, click on Microsoft Internet Explorer. Wait for it to open.
  • Where it says "Address" you type the following address http://www.thesource.gov.au/
  • You will then get a message saying, " Welcome to the source" and asks you to choose the basic or enhanced site. For a more interesting site with added picture or effects, choose the "enhanced" site.
  • The Source home page will appear.
  • To find out about careers and jobs, click" careers/jobs" on this site.
  • Move the mouse and point to which option you want to choose. A red circle will appear around the topic when you point to it. You then click which option you want.

The Source has information about how to prepare a resume. One good place to look is:

  • From the Source home page, Select" careers/jobs"
  • Then select "Jobsearch Info"
  • Then select "Making Our Future

Work for Indigenous Jobseekers-Series" - This site gives lots of helpful advice on how the workforce and has a section called "Writing an Easy Resume’.

The Job Guide is a publication, which contains information about different careers, and what you need to do to work in different jobs. It tells you:

  • About each job

  • What personal qualities/abilities you need.

  • What sort of study you need and where you can do this study

You can find a link to the Job Guide through the "Source" website, or by typing:

  • Find the Australian Career Directory. (The Source)
  • Find the Australian Job search website ( This is a bit more difficult) This site tells you all the vacancies on the Job Network.
  • Find were you can find information about ABSTUDY. (The Source)
