Phase 3 - EdNA Policies and
Procedures
It is essential that any person who intends to submit items to
the EdNA service understand the policies and procedures. The policies and procedures are
available online at the EdNA site (http://www.edna.edu.au). Please use the About EdNA
link. Alternatively, you can view the About EdNA page from this site.
Education.Au
are responsible for the management of EdNA and will supply an association with folder
containing promotional materials and copies of policy documents. The two people to
contact are Jillian Dellit jdellit@educationau.edu.au
and Jan Trask jtrask@educationau.edu.au.
Interpreting these policies in context is
a much more difficult task than simply knowing of them. It is when specific tasks are
required to be completed that the extent of policies makes an impact and that the
difference between professional associations and school systems becomes apparent.
It is especially significant that
associations match their ideas to EdNA policies in a two-way reciprocal sharing of
knowledge. This is because EdNA processes and policies were written with school systems
and schools in mind, rather than the professional associations' infrastructure. There are
two important aspects to this. Associations have considerably more freedom to plan things
and have less protocol and top-down management to restrict implementation. They can
implement things faster and with considerable more at-the-chalkface context than systems
and in a way that nurtures leaders and innovators. They will therefore naturally test the
limits, push the envelope and try to achieve what has not yet been thought about. The
disadvantage for associations is that they are mostly staffed with volunteer part-time and
occasional labour. The ways things happen for and within associations is considerably
different to how systems with full-time staff might gradually contribute to EdNA.
Associations do things in spurts, in the context of events and projects and are less able
to contribute to high-intensity long-term activities. |
