Report of the QISEO Conference '98
Prepared by Scott McKenzie, Conference Executive Officer, with Ann
Carroll, Chair, Conference Committee.
Summary
Conference
98 provided an opportunity for participants to reflect both on ways
of improving the present and shaping the future. As the conference
title Inventing Our Future implies, we all have a part to play in
influencing future directions. The conference explored some of the
emerging trends in the provision of government services, how senior
officers might influence the directions taken and how best to enable
individuals to use their knowledge in the best interests of the organisation.
Participants claimed they now have much greater understanding of
new approaches to managing people and knowledge flows in organisations,
system approaches to leadership and learning in organisations, and
of the realities of outsourcing government services.
Participants say one of the most important outcomes was the building
and maintaining of informal social and professional networks.
