Students

Bored of Studies?

Established in 2002 by four HSC graduates from 2001. Being the first to sit the newly revised HSC syllabus, the lack of information for current HSC students became apparent and hence developed into the sole inspiration for the development of this website. Created by students, for students, Bored of Studies strives to provide current year 12 and year 11 students with all the resources and support they need to succeed during the 2 years that form the most important part of their education and subsequently, their futures.

HOTmaths

HOTmaths is more than just an online maths tutor or homework helper. It is a comprehensive mathematics learning system — an interactive online math learning and teaching resource for students, parents and teachers, for home, school or homeschooling (home-based learning).

Mathletics

Mathletics is an online skill development site. As well, it offers online competiton aganst other students globaly.

Factsheets, worksheets, quizzes and games to help improve your skills.

Maths Dictionary for Kids

An animated, interactive dictionary for students which explains over 600 common mathematical terms in simple language.

NSW HSC Online

A resource for NSW HSC students in all subjects. All Mathematics courses have details about topics, assessments and preparations for the HSC.

Mathematrix

A web site devoted to exploring mathematical recreations - the more entertaining (and generally lesser known) areas of mathematics. This site can be enjoyed by anyone, from individuals with little or no math background to professors of the subject.

History of Mathematics

An extensive resource which looks at the history of mathematical topics, the biographies of important mathematicians and includes a mathematician of the day!

Software

Geogebra

GeoGebra is a free and multi-platform dynamic mathematics software for schools that joins geometry, algebra and calculus. It received several international awards including the European and German educational software awards.

Graphmatica

Graphmatica is a powerful, easy-to-use, equation plotter with numerical and calculus features:

  • Graph Cartesian functions, relations, and inequalities, plus polar, parametric, and ordinary differential equations.
  • New data plotting and curve-fitting features.
  • Numerically solve and graphically display tangent lines and integrals.
  • Find critical points, solutions to equations, and intersections between Cartesian functions.
  • Print your graphs or copy to clipboard as bitmap or enhanced metafile in black-and-white or color.

Mathematics Visualisation Toolkit

MVT (Mathematical Visualisation Toolkit) is a set of visual and computational tools designed to help students better visualise the concepts of Calculus. It contains:

WinPlot

WinPlot is a general-purpose plotting utility, which can draw (and animate) curves and surfaces presented in a variety of formats.

WinStat

WinStat provides access to scatter plots, curve fitting, histograms, statistical data, and standard theoretical probability distributions. It also simulates dealing cards, sampling candy, tossing darts, needles and coins.

WinGeom

WinGeom is for high-precision geometric constructions in both two and three dimensions. Drawings can be highlighted and animated in a variety of ways.
