The Australian Government, through the Federal Department of Employment, Education, Training and Youth Affairs, with the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development co-hosted a major regional conference on science, mathematics and technology education.

Entitled Challenge and Change: Science, Mathematics and Technology Education, the conference was held in the national capital, Canberra, from Sunday 14 - Tuesday 16 September 1997.
