Challenge and Change in Science, Mathematics and Technology Education The Australian Government is hosting an OECD Regional Dissemination Conference on Science, Mathematics and Technology Education (SMTE), through the Department of Employment, Education, Training and Youth Affairs (DEETYA). This conference will be held in Canberra, 14-16 September 1997. Its purpose is to encourage national and international exchange of ideas and practices in science, mathematics and technology education and to provide an opportunity to showcase recent developments in the use of technology in the provision of education. The conference is by invitation to 120 educational leaders and policy makers, education systems' representatives and professional associations concerned with SMTE, including Chief Executives of Education Departments, teachers, principals, parents, government and industry. Invitations have also been forwarded through OECD to Ambassadors and regional delegates from Japan, America, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand and Korea. Program development for this conference has been managed by the Australian Science Teachers Association (ASTA) in conjunction with Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers (AAMT) and the Technology Education Federation of Australia (TEFA), along with DEETYA and OECD representatives. Registration at the conference is fully funded by the Australian Government through DEETYA . The Minister for Schools, Vocational Education and Training, the Hon Dr David Kemp MHR will officially open the conference on Monday 15 September. The program will run until 5pm each day, with the Conference dinner being held on Monday evening. This is an exciting opportunity to showcase Australian and international initiatives and to discuss issues facing SMTE in our schools.
