The Australian Council for Education Through Technology is a council of affiliated technology organisations. It exists to promote and improve the quality of technology education provided in Australia. ACET is the National Professional Association for technology educators representing members from all sectors of education including pre-school, primary schools, secondary schools, senior colleges, and the tertiary education sector through universities and TAFE. It also encourages membership from industry. It represents all educators with an interest in technology education. Membership is drawn from the existing disciplines of industrial arts, manual arts, computing, design, home economics, textiles, media, technical studies and agriculture. ACET is an affiliate of the International Technology Educators' Association and a member of the Technology Education Federation of Australia.

ACET has now established 2 email lists to facilitate interaction amongst ACET members and technology educators. This list is a closed list for members of the ACET national and state executive. For more information about the ACET Executive Email List contact John Gibson, jwg@ozemail.com.au This open list is a place for secondary technology educators to build a community, and list members are welcome to contribute to and initiate discussions. The list can be used to: * discuss Technology Learning Area ideas and issues * promote curriculum projects and advertise professional development events * share curriculum resources * ask questions and help colleagues * interact with special guests, people with expertise in technology from education and industry * link to Web pages Supporting Web pages will be constructed from interaction

The Council believes that technology education should play an important part in the education of all Australian students. The practical/hands-on problem solving mode of learning is now even more important if students are to become competent in the use of their knowledge and skills, and in understanding and functioning effectively within their current environment and in future study and work life. Technology education, to remain relevant in meeting the current and future needs of students, is moving into the new and developing areas of robotics, electronics, computer graphics, computer design drawing and databases, textiles, control systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, instrumentation, and the technologies involved in new and alternative energy sources. ACET is committed to fostering effective education programs for all students in the traditional, new and emerging areas of technology.
